Hamburger Soup

1 lb hamburger
1 c. cubed potatoes
2 1/2 c. tomatoes or tomato juice
1 1/2 qt water
1 small bay leaf, crushed
1/2 tsp thyme
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. sliced carrots
5 tsp salt
1/2 tsp basil
1/8 tsp. pepper

Brown beef and onion in soup pan. Add other ingredients and simmer 1 hour. If desired, may add 8 ounce package of noodles last 15 minutes and sprinkle with grated cheese.
